Do It Yourself PVC Vocal Booth Frame kits: Just Add Glue!
Ever since we published the Video on How to Build a DIY PVC Vocal Booth Frame Cheap, we received numerous inquiries asking for specific size of the parts for a particular booth size and quantity of acoustic blankets that would be needed to cover that booth.
Watch the videos here:
In the video I mentioned that we can cut the pipes according to the dimensions provided by a customer, so they can simply assemble the booth from the parts.
After some tweaking, we would like to offer some most popular size frame options, that include pre-cut pipe parts with all connectors as a kit. The PVC Vocal booth kits can be easily reconfigured and size can be further adjusted as necessary.
Kits do not include Glue. But we strongly recommend that the PVC pipe frame parts be glued together, so it does not fall apart on you.
PVC Vocal Booth Frame options and cut dimensions
We offer several most popular options from which you can choose what suits you best. ( See the table below)
You can also use that table as a guide to estimate approximate size of the vocal booth you want to build, and approximate number of Acoustic blankets that you can use for the acoustic treatment of the vocal booth.
Please bear in mind that number of blankets always needs to be rounded up and it is always better to get more blankets so they overlap, rather than having a gaping hole in your booth.
Depending on your preference the vocal booth frame can have a square footprint, where every side is of the same length, or rectangular, where two parallel sides are of equal length, but not equal to nonparallel sides.
To estimate the size of such rectangular booth we used the ratio 2:1, where the length is twice as large as the width.
In the table on the right:
L – Elbow Connector; T – T-Connector; I – Coupling Connector; X – 4-way 90 degree connector.
NOTE: the “X” connector can be replaced with “T” – connector for smaller booths.
Insertion-L and Insertion –W – those are the straight pipe pieces designed to adjust the Width and Length of the frame. The size of those pieces can be changed to change the overall size and configuration of the frame.
Center – These are the PVC pipes that used in the center section. Of the top or bottom frame.
Vertical/cross – those are the Vertical supports that determine how high the booth will be. We suggest to have the booth 80 inches tall. This is high enough to fit in most people. It also provides sufficient separation between the top of the booth and the ceiling, which is important for good acoustic performance of the booth, because the ceiling is a reflective surface, so you want to stay away from it. You can use one pipe 80 inches tall. In the table above we had split the vertical pipes in half, so it makes it less expensive to ship.
General PVC vocal booth frame design:
This is what the assembly of the Bottom Perimeter (Base) would look like:
This is what the Top perimeter assembly would look like:
To assemble complete frame, you need to put together the Base perimeter, the Top perimeter and connect them with vertical support poles.
Each frame perimeter (Top and Bottom) has what I call “Insertion“ pieces :
Insertion – L (to increase the Length of the booth) and
Insertion – W (to increase the Width of the booth).
Of course, the lengths of Insertion L or Insertion W pieces need to be changed in matching pairs. On the top AND the bottom of the frame perimeters.
Cross Bars are there to tie the top of the frame together and provide support for the roof blanket. We only provide the cross bars for the 38 inch wide frames, because it is better to have then cross bar as one piece. And sending Long pole may result in oversized shipment charges.
We offer BASIC and COMPLETE kit options for the same sizes vocal booth frames.
BASIC kit option does not include PVC pipes for vertical poles. The 1” PVC pipes can be purchased from a local hardware store and cut to the desired height.
COMPLETE kit option includes the vertical poles, that were cut in half to avoid oversize shipping charges. Coupling connectors to join the two parts together are included.
PVC glue is NOT included. PVC glue is readily available at your local hardware store.
